Coasts in MindA Lifetime of Change

A fisherman stands on a wooden boat, inspecting a net.

Coasts in Mind invites you to explore a century of change in Poole Harbour through the photographs, treasured objects, and personal memories of the people who call this coastline home. This exhibition is rooted in local knowledge and continues to grow as new stories are shared and long-forgotten images resurface.

By bringing together community voices and historical material, it reveals how the harbour has evolved over time and how these transformations have shaped the lives, work, and experiences of generations who have lived beside the water!

Your own memories are an important part of this ongoing story. We warmly encourage you to contribute to our living map on the second floor, helping to build a richer understanding of coastal change and its impact on all of us.

Welcome to your exhibition - one shaped by the people, places, and histories that make Poole Harbour unique.

Coasts in Mind is a Museum of London Archaeology project, made possible through the support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund. We extend our thanks to Nick Woods, the Matthews and Kentish families, and Poole Museum Archives for generously providing many of the photographs that bring this exhibition to life.
