Museum Music and Mime

A fun music and signing group for babies and toddlers at Poole Museum.Sing nursery rhymes, make music and learn simple signs for everyday communication. Suitable for babies and toddlers (0-3 years old)

Every Friday (term time only)  

Booking is not essential, but spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. FREE

Description

Are you living with memory loss or dementia? 

Join this welcoming group for a social afternoon of reminiscence, friendship and support. Poole Museum is delighted to be working in association with Prama to run this weekly club which is led by a specialist reminiscence facilitator. Sessions take place in the Community Room, Old Rope Walk, Hamworthy.
Advance booking essential. £2 per week, payable on the day.

Dorset County Council’s Historic Environment Team, will be here to identify your archaeological finds and help to solve the mystery!

Museum Make and Take: Sun-Catchers

Get creative and make your very own sun-catcher to take home and hang in your window! Join us for a free, fun collage activity exploring Light-Up Poole’s theme, ‘Spectrum’. 

Use colours, shapes and a mixture of materials in this drop-in session. No booking required, donations welcome.

Making Shadow Puppets: Family Workshop with artist Anna Shiels

As part of the Light Up Poole festival explore the magical effects of light and shadow with artist Anna Shiels. Have a go at making your very own shadow puppet to perform with and take home. Places are available for eight children with a parent / carer.

Anna will be performing a series of puppet shows during the festival from Thursday 20 – Saturday 22 February. See the Light Up Poole programme for more details: www.lightuppoole.co.uk

Mathmos Lava Lamp Trail and Lounge

Did you know the original lava lamp was invented in Poole in the 1960s by local company Mathmos?

To celebrate Light Up Poole 2020, Poole Museum has teamed up with Mathmos to create a range of engaging activities. 

Come and take a selfie at our ‘Mathmos Lava Lamp Window’ installation, enjoy swirling projections and follow the trail around the museum to our retro lava lounge for a chill out with a difference.

Poole Harbour Osprey Translocation Project Talk

The Poole Harbour Osprey Translocation Project is a 5-year reintroduction project running between 2017 and 2021. Led by Birds of Poole Harbour partnered with the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation and Wildlife Windows, the Project aims to restore Ospreys as a breeding bird to the South Coast through releasing Scottish juveniles in Poole. 

Hear about the process, successes and future of this project from one of the founders of Birds of Poole Harbour, Paul Morton.
