Evidence in Action

This workshop is for pupils finding out about how we investigate the past. Particularly suitable for any history topic involving archaeology, including Stone Age, Iron Age, Romans, Saxons and Vikings.

This workshop is an hour long and can take place at Poole Museum or in your classroom.

Learning Outcomes

Pupils will:

  1. Understand that we can learn about the past from the things people leave behind         

  2. Understand that some materials survive a long time and others don’t.             

 

Outline

Introduction.

 

Activity 1 – What survives? Discussing survival of artefacts made from different materials including handling objects.

Activity 2 – Grave profiles and skeleton game.

 

Plenary.

The class teacher must be present for the whole session.

 

Photography

We are very happy for our staff to be photographed working with your pupils. Where consent is available we would be grateful for copies of digital photos we can use for promotion and publicity.

A risk assessment has been prepared to assist you in your risk assessment. Available when you book.
