Work Experience

We work with education providers to develop inclusive work experience placements for young people.

The Museum will be closed for redevelopment from 31st October 2022 through to Spring / Summer 2024. From September 2022, we are unable to take in work experience placements.

We will however have placements available for 15-17 year olds in 2024 which last for one week.

If you are interested please contact your schools work experience liaison contact.

Pupils will gain a rounded overview of working within a museum setting and an understanding of the roles and careers available. They will be able to develop skills through practical activity and a real work challenge.

Young Archaeologists Club

Poole Museum's Young Archaeologists Club (YAC) is part of a national organisation which is run by the Council for British Archaeology.

The club meets on the second Saturday of each month and offers a wide variety of archaeology related activities.

It is open to members between the ages of 8 and 16.

Takeover Day

Takeover Day is when museums, galleries, historic homes and heritage sites invite young people in to take over jobs normally done by adults. Poole Museum has been actively involved in this for several years and we plan to run our next takeover in 2024 after reopening.

Have a look at this video to get an idea of what’s involved.

Further and Higher Education

Poole Museum partners closely with Bournemouth University, AUB and Bournemouth & Poole College in various disciplines. We will be building these relationships through our redevelopment project. We want to harness the creative talents within the area and create content and programmes together with students through specific project briefs to create a vibrant, interactive new museum.

If you are a student who would like to get involved in Our Museum Project and attend one of these institutions, get in touch with your tutor to see what course-related opportunities are on offer

You can also take a look at our volunteering opportunities in the Museum and the Arts.

Volunteer

We are always looking for people with specific skills, as well as those who are keen to learn new skills. Whether you want to gain experience in a particular sector, pass your knowledge on to others, make new friends or give something back to the community - we've got a role for you!

We don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach so if you have specific skills or ideas, please tell us and we may be able to create a role to suit you.
