We do love a good pirate at Poole Museum! So, this week, we thought we would showcase a recently donated Poole Speedway Supporters Club badge from 1966.
For those of you who are not familiar, Poole Speedway, nicknamed The Pirates, are a motorcycle speedway team. Poole Stadium in Wimborne Road has been the team’s home since its foundation in 1948, when a speedway track was installed to replace the stadium’s existing cycle track. The first meeting took place on 26th April of that year and meetings have continued ever since.
This enamel badge was made by Davis Badge Co Ltd, a well-known London based manufacturer of badges of this type.
