Punch Bowl

Chinese Punch Bowl (1736-1795)

Punch-bowl-large-content.png

This colourful Qianlong period bowl is one of several examples of 18th century Chinese porcelain on display at the museum. Painted in enamel colours in the ‘mandarin’ palette, it depicts a house with people in a landscape, with a floral design inside.

Large quantities of tableware were decorated in the European taste for export from China. Poole’s more wealthy Georgians would display such pieces in their dining rooms as a sign of status.
